Ian was called to the Bar in 1980 after articling at Agro Zaffiro. He has extensive experience in insurance defence litigation. He is primarily engaged in the defence of tort claims against school boards, municipalities, police and fire departments, commercial landlords and property managers, retail stores and supermarkets, taverns, sports organizations, children’s aid societies and other public institutions. He also has extensive experience in occupiers’ liability, sports torts, alcohol liability, winter maintenance, roads & sidewalks, professional E&O claims, ancient sexual abuse claims, and the law of employment. Finally, Ian also has considerable appellate experience.
Ian has given lectures about various aspects of law at McMaster University, Mohawk College, Henderson Hospital, Chedoke Hospital, the Hamilton Board of Education, St. Joseph’s Hospital, McMaster University Medical Centre, the Independent Insurance Brokers Association, the Annual Joint Seminar for Lawyers and Insurance Adjusters, the Hamilton Law Association, the Hamilton Medical-Legal Society, Crawford Rehabilitation Services, the Victorian Order of Nurses, the Ontario Insurance Adjusters’ Association, the Canadian Independent Adjusters’ Association, the Advocates’ Society Courthouse Series, the Ontario School Board Insurance Exchange (Risk Management Seminar), the Roads Superintendents’ Seminar, the Royal Insurance Company, the Rotary Club, the Lions Club, and the Canadian Soccer Association.
He is a past President of the Hamilton Lawyers Club, past member of the Quality Assurance committee of Joseph Brant Hospital, and a member of the Advocates Society, the Hamilton Medical-Legal society, the Hamilton Lawyers’ Club, and the Hamilton Law Association.
